My ArchiVlog
Since I was a child, my vocation was truly clear; I dreamed of impossible buildings, I built cardboard houses in the garden of my house, I played with big blocks of wood building big towers… I was determined about what I wanted to do for a living!
So, I studied architecture at the University of la Salle in Bogota/Colombia; once I finished my architectural studies, I went to do a Master in Restoration of Architectural Monuments at the University of La Sapienza in Rome/Italy, starting this great adventure.
My work beginnings came about “by sheer chance “ as we usually say:
Upon returning from Rome and visiting my parents’ house in Cartagena, without being very clear where to start since I had disconnecting from everything and everyone after being out of the country for five years; I went out one day in search of a friend who works as a teacher in the faculty of architecture and while waiting for him to finish his class, I started talking to a colleague who happened to be the dean of the faculty and without much ado invited me to be part of his team.
A few months after that fortuitous meeting I was working as a professor of History of Architecture, Theory of Architecture, and later Design Workshop.
I must admit that it was quite a challenge, since the subjects I taught were theoretical and in this career are not the most interesting for students…most of them feel that it is a waste of time.
What can I say about that time: I loved teaching; years later I was already dedicated full time to teach. I taught architecture in five of the main universities in Bogota until I went to live in the United States.
After a while I wanted to start teaching again but learning a new language as an adult is different from learning it as a child and my accent was strong, so I never had the courage to apply to the architecture school in the city where I lived.
This made me think that it might be better to start writing my own architecture lecture and thus someday return to impart my knowledge and experiences.
Today more than ever, I am convinced that in the faculties of architecture travel should be a curricular subject, but unfortunately it cannot be considered in such a way, even the economic factor makes it impossible, but thanks to the tools and technology of our time moving to the place we want is no longer impossible.
This is how this blog was born,
In it you will find from my point of view, those places I have visited, the history, legends, and architectural curiosities.
In the near future I hope that this blog can become a complement for the student, the professional architect, the staff working in tourism and in general those who are interested in history and architecture.
